Who is a candidate:
People who are good candidates for this treatment have an excess of fat under the chin and have ruled out alternative treatments like liposuction as an option. The best candidates are also aware of the time commitment required for this treatment: your best results may require six treatments over six months to achieve.
How does the treatment work:
When deoxycholic acid is injected directly into the submental fat under the chin, the fat-storing adipose tissue is destroyed. Over time, the fat cells are removed from the treated area via the body’s natural metabolic processes. Most people require more than one treatment to achieve optimal results. Each treatment must be spaced at least one month apart, and results usually start to show up after two to four treatments. The number of treatments you have will depend on your goals and the size of your submental fullness.
Recovery: Expect a 36-hour period of swelling that truly peaks 12 hours post-procedure. Bruising is common and will resolve within 7 days. A slight burning sensation lasting for up to a week is normal as the deoxycholic acid works to remove fat cells.
