SkinPen: Scar Therapy with PRP
The beneficial growth factors in platelets help with the creation of new blood vessels while also regenerating tissues. What this does is improve the texture of your skin. Scar therapy with PRP injections minimizes or eliminates scars by stimulating connective tissue cells called fibroblasts and epidermal cells called keratinocytes.
How does the treatment work: First, the blood is drawn from your arm. Then, the vial is put into a centrifuge that spins the blood to isolate the PRP. The platelets in your blood contain active growth elements that regenerate your skin. After the PRP is separated, it is injected using Microneedling into the locations where scarring exists. Your blood platelets will naturally correct scarring and promote healing by stimulating elastin and collagen for regrowth.
Who is a good candidate: Someone who has scars from Acne, Surgical scarring, Keloids or Minor burn scars.
Recovery: Skin for a majority of patients will appear red or flushed for 12-24 hours after PRP treatments.
