Time to Prep Your Skin for Winter!

 Everyone loves autumn. The changing leaves make everything more beautiful and we're starting to get cozy in our wool sweaters and boots. PSL's are replacing roof top margaritas and we're prepping our wardrobe for winter! 

With that said, it's also time to start prepping your skincare regime for the harsh winter months! During the winter the cold, dry Colorado weather really does a number on our skin. When it's cold out, there's less moisture in the air causing our skin cells begin to lose moisture, leading to redness, flakiness, and chapped skin. 

Preparing your skin before hand prevent that process and keep you looking healthy and beautiful until the snow melts!

1. Start with water: Keeping yourself hydrated and healthy from the inside out is key! Water helps our body run efficiently and, of course, keeps us from being dehydrated. There's a reason why everyone in Boulder walks around with a water bottle in their bag... but you knew that right? ;)... Another note about water: when showering or washing your face, very hot water has drying effects so be sure to use warm water! 

 

2. Schedule a facial: Regular exfoliation keeps skin energized and hydrated by removing dead skin cells and allowing for cell turn over. By removing the dead skin cells you will maintain an even, healthy glow because chapped skin is less likely to become irritated and red. 4. Protect with SPF: The winter is an ideal time to let your skin heal from any damage or exposure caused by the sun during the summer. Even if it's cloudy or snowy out, UV rays are still penetrating your skin so be sure to use your SPF and even a hat.

How (and Why!) to Clean Your Makeup Brushes!

We all have our beauty routine, but do you include cleaning your brushes? Think about it... when was the last time you gave those bad boys a rinse? If you answered, "More than 2 weeks ago" then you should keep reading this post!

 

Frequent use of shadow, bronzer, and foundation brushes traps old make up, oils, skin cells and bacteria! So if you're wondering why you have a sudden skin irritation or break out, this could be why! All this left over residue on your brushes can also perpetuate dull skin, even after a facial. Regular brush cleaning can help improve skin tone, prevent skin infections, reduce breakouts, blemishes, and redness, and create a beautiful, healthy glow. 

 

Luckily, cleaning your brushes is very simple and cheap! You probably already have everything you need to get started! You will need:

 

1. Mild face cleanser (or organic baby shampoo)

2. Rubbing Alcohol

 

Rinse your brushes with lukewarm water in the sink to get as much makeup off the brush as possible. Next, squeeze a small amount of cleanser onto your hands with some water, until foamy. Rub this into the bristles of your brush under running water until the water runs clear (that's how you know the makeup has been washes off!). Remember to keep the bristles pointed down so that water doesn't run into the handle of the brush. Continue with all your brushes and let them dry on a towel. 

 

Apply a little bit of rubbing alcohol to a cotton ball or paper towel, and gently wipe down the brushes for an extra clean. (This is great to do 1-2 times a week between washes, particularly for problem skin).

 

It's key to remember to let them try COMPLETELY before using them again! Do this every other week and watch your skin begin to glow!
