Cosmetic Injectables Pre-care
Avoid Alcohol: Do NOT consume alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours prior to treatment. Alcohol may increase the risk of bruising and swelling.
Medications & Supplements: Certain medications and supplements may increase the risk of bruising and swelling, including aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega-3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, and other NSAIDs. Avoid non-essential blood-thinning medications and supplements prior to treatment when appropriate.
DO NOT discontinue any prescribed medication, including aspirin or blood thinners, without first consulting the healthcare provider who prescribed it. Please let your provider know about all medications and supplements you are currently taking.
Timing of Appointment: Schedule toxin and lip filler appointments at least 2 weeks prior to a wedding, vacation, photos, or other special event. Bruising and swelling may occur following treatment. Toxin results may take up to 14 days to fully develop, while lip filler may require time for swelling to resolve and the final result to settle.
Discontinue Retin-A: Discontinue Retin-A/tretinoin and other potentially irritating products around the treatment area for 2 days before treatment.
Rashes, Cold Sores & Active Infection: Please contact us before your appointment if you have a rash, cold sore, open sore, infection, significant irritation, or active breakout in or around the treatment area. Your appointment may need to be rescheduled.
Cold Sore History — Lip Filler: If you have a history of cold sores, please let your provider know prior to lip filler treatment. Lip injections can trigger an outbreak, and antiviral medication may be recommended prior to treatment.
Dental Work & Recent Procedures — Lip Filler: Let your provider know if you have recently had or are planning dental work, vaccinations, medical procedures, or other injectable treatments around the time of your lip filler appointment. Your provider can advise you on appropriate timing.
Eat Before Your Appointment: Be sure to eat and hydrate before your procedure. This can help decrease the chance of lightheadedness during treatment.
Arnica for Bruising: If desired, you may take Arnica prior to your appointment to help with bruising. Please discuss supplements with your healthcare provider if you take prescription medications.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Injection treatments are not performed during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Please inform your provider if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have questions about treatment eligibility.
Before Your Treatment: Please let your provider know about any allergies, medical conditions, medications, supplements, recent illnesses, previous reactions to injectable treatments, or previous filler before treatment.
Toxin Post-care:
- Stay Upright: Remain upright for 4 hours after treatment.
- Avoid Massaging & Facial Treatments: Do not massage the injected areas or receive facial or any skincare treatments for two weeks post-treatment.
- Laser Services: Receiving laser services on treated areas at any time can reduce the efficacy of the Toxins.
- Bruising: Use Arnica Montana post-injection (cream or pills) to heal bruising. Ice may be applied as needed to reduce swelling.
Follow-up & Touch-ups:
- Follow-up at 2 Weeks: A follow-up appointment is recommended at 2 weeks to check the effects, symmetry, and appearance. Adjustments can be made to correct any imperfections. Additional touch-ups/adjustments may incur additional costs.
Common Side Effects, Risks, and Complications:
- Common Side Effects: Headache, brief redness, swelling, twitching, numbness, bruising, eyelid or eyebrow droop, unevenness.
- Rare Risks: Eye muscle or other distant muscle paralysis (very rare).
Lip Filler Post-care
Swelling & Bruising: Swelling, tenderness, redness, and bruising are common and expected after filler treatment. Swelling may be uneven, especially in the lips, and one side may temporarily appear fuller than the other. This is often related to normal tissue swelling and does not necessarily reflect final filler placement. A cool compress may be gently applied as needed. Topical or oral Arnica may also be used if desired.
Avoid Touching & Pressure: DO NOT TOUCH, PUSH, MASSAGE, or manipulate the treated area unless specifically instructed by your injector. For the first 24 hours, avoid unnecessary pressure on the treated area, including excessive pressure or manipulation of the lips.
First 24–48 Hours: To help minimize swelling and bruising, avoid strenuous exercise, excessive alcohol, and excessive heat, including saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs. Keep the treatment area clean and avoid unnecessary touching.
Post-Procedure Expectations: Temporary swelling, tenderness, firmness, small lumps or bumps, bruising, and asymmetry can occur while the area heals. Your lips may initially look fuller or less even than your final result. Allow the filler and surrounding tissue time to settle before evaluating your final result.
If you have persistent lumps, asymmetry, swelling, or other concerns as you heal, please contact your injector for evaluation. Do not attempt to massage or correct the area yourself.
Cold Sores: Lip injections can trigger a cold sore outbreak in clients with a history of cold sores. Please contact your injector if you develop symptoms of an outbreak or have concerns following treatment.
Common Side Effects, Risks & Complications
Common Side Effects: Bruising, swelling, redness, tenderness, pain, itching, temporary firmness or lumpiness, asymmetry during healing, and cold sore outbreak.
Less Common or Rare Complications: Infection, persistent nodules or granulomas, allergic reaction, delayed inflammatory reaction, filler migration, vascular occlusion, tissue injury or necrosis, and visual complications.
